Major Oak Polishing

Major Oak Polishing was founded by Christoff van der Merwe, who has been running successful French Polishing businesses since 2008. He holds a HND in leadership and development and a HNC in business management.

All team members are CSCS and CIS registered, and the company has teams as large as 16. It offers nationwide UK coverage and can complete projects overseas, providing both domestic and commercial services. Its main services include French polishing, floor restoration, spray finishing, and furniture restoration.

French polishing and floor restoration work defines the output of this West Bridgford operation, whose customers describe parquet revival, engineered oak laying, and the refinishing of doors, kitchen surfaces and dining tables. Several accounts highlight the care taken with neglected timber, one describing a stained oak floor brought back to a standard its owner considered better than when first installed. Punctuality and tidiness come up repeatedly, with dust kept to a minimum and work areas cleaned before departure.

Communication is another consistent theme: one customer contrasts the firm favourably because a callback and site visit actually happened after other approaches went unanswered, while others mention patient guidance on choosing colours and finishes. Named staff feature often, particularly Chris and Christoff, praised as a skilled craftsman and gentleman, with Ruben also singled out for attention to detail. Pricing is described as fair and the interpretation of client requirements well judged. The scope of work spans antique furniture restoration, metal polishing, and recovery from fire or water damage alongside the sanding and waxing of floors and doors.
